Diner at Petro Stopping Centers
46600 SE North Bend Way, North Bend, WA 98045
I was looking for a restaurant within walking distance to my hotel and was quite surprised to find the place across the street was pretty first-rate so I need look no further. I ate breakfast here every morning and was happy enough with my basic choice (bacon and eggs) that I ordered it every day for the several days I was here. The real revelation was dinner. There was a nice soup and salad bar that was complimentary if you ordered an entree, which I did. I ordered the 8 ounce sirloin steak, which came with a side dish, plus the soup and salad bar. The steak was very good, and the price was very reasonable. The clam chowder on Friday was superb - clams were tender and the flavor was excellent. The service was uniformly very good.
Decent Food, Nice Salad Bar, Good Service
We stopped here during a lull - about 3:45 p.m. The service was friendly & efficient. We both ordered the "Kitchen Creation" of the day - chicken & a biscuit. The biscuit was surprisingly flaky & buttery - far better than what I expected. The chicken stuff - essentially a chicken pot pie without the crust - was too salty for my liking. I noticed my Dad didn't salt his, and he salts pretty much everything. But it was tasty: noticeable & identifiable bits of chicken and the vegetables weren't mushy.
I also opted for the soup & salad bar, and I could have made an entire meal out of that option. The creamy tomato soup was very good -- like the biscuit, it exceeded my expectations. My Dad & I both added pepper to our meals, but that's not unusual.
Normally I'm not looking for a sit-down meal when I'm driving past Ken's Truck Town, but I will eat here again as time allows.
Great diner with great service
